Hey, everybody.I wanted to jump on here and tell you about something really strange that just happened. It looks like the Justice Department may be canceling Donald Trump's $1 .8 billion slush fund.A couple different news outlets are reporting that they are going to abandon it because of political backlash from Republicans.
That's great news if it holds. But the alarming part is how they're trying to spin it.DOJ is now blaming the courts for shutting down the fund, even though that did not actually happen. The Justice Department just put out a statement suggesting that a court declared the settlement fund illegal. It says that while DOJ thinks the court is wrong, they are going to abide by the court's decision anyway. This is bizarre in so many ways, starting with the fact that no court actually said the fund is illegal.
One court put a pause on it to allow time to consider this issue, but any actual decision is weeks or months away, and then there will be appeals and Supreme Court review, et cetera. Also, we know this administration does not just give in to court rulings without a fight. If they believed they could win, they would take this all the way up to the Supreme Court. It looks like what's really going on here is that Todd Blanche is desperately trying to save face.He created a political disaster, and now he needs to walk it back without admitting that it's all his fault. On a basic level, it's a good outcome if DOJ cancels this corrupt slush fund, but it's also really disturbing that they're still lying about it.
They are so deep in this narrative about blaming the courts for everything that they are now falsely claiming that a court blocked them when it actually didn't.I just wanted to get this out there so that you're not misled about what's actually happened. There is so much misinformation coming out of this administration.I'll be here to fact check them, and if you find it helpful, please share.
