Dorgu Looks Deadly On The Wing! Mount In The Pivot? 5 Things We Learned... Brighton 0-3 Man United
Brother welcome back to the channel the perfect ending 3 -0 away from home final day of the season record broken we've got a couple of youth getting their moment and a manager that arrived in January leaving with his head held high and a two -year contract in his back pocket let's get into what that performance told us and what we learned number one Cobby Mane, a completely different player under Michael Carrick and cash your mind back to Sunderland a couple of weeks ago.Mane in the pivot without Casemiro, four duels contested, 0 -1.The midfield had no anchor in there, no bite and United were second to every single ball.Yesterday against Brighton, no Casemiro, he's got Mount playing alongside him.Again, another recipe for getting completely run over, especially with that Brighton midfield at home with all they're looking to do.15 duels contested, 9 won.
14 ground duels, 8 won.1 of 1 aerial won.He got on the ball, 79 touches, 5 dribbles completed. That's a completely different player to the one that got taken out of the game and outworked at Sunderland. What changed?Don't know, you know.
I really don't know.Sunderland game was not nothing, was it?But final game of the season, Carrick confirmed as permanent manager. You get an early goal in the first half, something to protect.United fans are right behind them, everyone's feeling good, we've done our job.Maybe that's the motivation, I don't know, but maybe it was the styles make fights sort of angle.
But there was something in that performance that was very different to the one that we saw at Sunderland. And I thought that was a real mature performance that from Komi Menuhi, maybe giving us a glimpse of how he might develop going forward as a player. The right midfield partner alongside him next season isn't a nice to have, it's an absolute essential. But that was a real nice showing that about what he can do with a different player alongside him.But you've got to bring consistency to that because you can't just forget the Sunderland game and pretend it didn't happen.Number two, Dogu is a weapon in attack.
I think Carrick knows it.The big selection decision that he made really was putting Dogu in into the front three obviously rather than left -back.Luke Shaw covered in the left -back position.Dogu got attacking freedom and the result was one of the performances of United's season. You got a goal, you got an assist, you got 10 duels which tells you that He was just physically in the game from the start. That's what he does.
He's a bit of a bulldog in that sense. He got three shots. He had a big chance which he missed. That one could have even added to another one there for him.He got a goal which opened the score, which gave Bruno his assist. It was a really solid performance from him.
It was a performance on instincts, I felt.Carrick has clearly identified that Dawgoo is a real asset going forward and in advanced areas where he can do a little bit of tracking back but he's mostly used as an offensive outlet.Luke Shaw gives you a far more sort of stable and reliable left back, I think. As I mentioned to Joe last night on the review I did with the fan channel, I think sometimes having the option to be able to play Doggoo in defence against a team that's going to sit back and not offer you so much going forward could be a real asset for us.It allows us to put another attacking piece into play. And I don't think you can look at him as being like, right, okay, every single game he's going to play left wing.
I think you go, okay, a lot of games he's going to play left wing, but there's going to be some games when we're going to play We might have 70 % possession and we might be struggling to break down a low block Put him as a left back and he's still going to be the attacking offensive asset that he wants to be But then the left winger can move inside and and start trying to overload the opposition backline And I think that would be a real good thing and I think having that tactical flexibility with players like a dog He does give you almost like a g -sun park sort of quality where there's multiple different ways to utilize him and get the best out of the team by putting him intopositions. So really good from him yesterday.
Right, then let's talk World Cup 2026.48 teams, 16 cities, and three massive countries. It's going to be the biggest World Cup in history. And if you're planning on following England or anyone across the US, Mexico, and Canada, the logistics are going to be a madness. You're hopping borders every few days. You might land in Mexico City, fly to New York, and then drive on up to Toronto.

career seven duels one out of eight all eight were on the ground.Six defensive actions, four tackles, 86 % pass accuracy from 44 attempted.Compare that to the performance at Sunderland where he did get involved in duels, 12 of them, he only won four, he was booked for a foul. The difference is absolutely stark and I think the difference in how many duels him and Manew won is probably the story of that game.I thought he was really good yesterday against Brighton.Against Sunderland he was He was awful, let's have it right.
And I think that tells you something about Mount and his limitations and maybe what United need out of this midfield rebuild. He can probably come in and do a job in the right conditions, but he can't do it in every single condition. And I think the signing that comes in next to Manu has to be someone that can be able to perform in the Champions League, away at Sunderland, away at Brighton and at Old Trafford, not just at one of those sorts of things.Number four, Lemons.Again, just comfortable and assured and it was interesting and i think this is because of their press i mean this is where you can get bogged down looking at stats about context but 13 accurate passes from 29 attempts which on the face of things you go jesus that's no good is it but i think 21 of those passes were long passes So that tells you that he was trying to bypass the press repeatedly. And guess what?
United come away with a pretty solid performance, all told.Like I said yesterday, and I think a lot of you disagree with me, but at the end of the day, I can only tell you what I feel. You know, that's what I felt at the time.I was surprised we were 2 -0 up I thought they were getting quite a lot of opportunities. They weren't accurate. We were accurate.
I think that's the difference We were clinical and they weren't but I think one of the things that I was seeing with them is they was getting a lot of box penetration and it felt like they were on top for a lot of the game and I think the right decision -making is Bypass it.21 long out of 29 tells you that was exactly the tactic we neededfrom the gaffer was to not even entertain it.Now it's interesting that you're going to do that when you've got Mbumo up front because that's not someone that you can play up to and play off which means that the likes of Amad Mbumo and Dogu they're going to be pressing a lot more than you would probably want because they're going to be chasing second balls and they're going to be looking for that sort of stuff but yeah I think it's it was a really interesting sort of tactical performance in that sense from a goalkeeping and shot stopping perspective it's another clean sheet and he was tested a couple of times but it's something to just recognizing it You know, he has got the ability to go long.I think it works better when it's Cesco that he's going long too.But also that United do not need to and aren't required to, I think this is the most important part, we don't need to and we're not required to pass it out from the back at all times.
And that I think is a real positive.I think we've got multiple ways to be able to get up the pitch and that is a pro.Number five, the youth. There was a couple of moments from the bench which told you a lot about Michael Carrick. We got Shane Lacey on with half an hour -ish to go.He was in five duels, won two of them, six out of eight passing accurate.
He got a shot off, he had an assist attempt. He played, he contributed, he didn't look out of place.I don't know what's going to happen with Shane next season because even though I think he's good enough to be a Premier League player and work on that and develop into that, He's got Amad and Mbumo in front of him.So I'm not sure how many minutes he's actually going to get in the team next season. So I think that's a real consideration has to be what happens with him.Now he's got the composure and I think he's got the talent and I think probably a good loan somewhere would do well for him.
We also saw Tyler Fletcher, 16 minutes. He got 11 from 12 passes, kept it tidy, kept it simple, didn't look out of place, nice and composed. And then obviously we've got Malasia, who's been quite poor, has obviously made the decision that he's going to be getting moved on.That wasn't a tactical decision, it was just allowing him to end the season on the pitch, I think. And I think that's the manager that sees the human side of a player as well.It is his last outing in a Manchester United shirt, let him have that.

Get started freeAnd I think that tells you a lot about Michael Carrick. Now, yes, there's things that are going to tell you more.12 from 17 since taking charge, that tells you more.Laurie did a really good article, which I might sort of break down at some point over this week as well to have a look at, talking about the man management side, how he sat down with every player before properly taking over. And I think on the final afternoon, nothing to prove, everything already achieved. He found time to to get the academy players and someone who's leaving the club out on the pitch and give Molasser a little bit of a send off as well.
And I think that tells you exactly who Michael Carrick is and I think it tells you why the players respond to him because he's got their ear, he's got their respect and I think it tells you everything about him.Anyway, I think it's going to be an interesting summer to say the least. We are going to be watching it with bated breath, hoping that we bring somebody in.plenty of people in, maybe half a dozen. But the season's done, third place, Champions League, Bruno is in the record books, Carrick is confirmed, the window opening is the next thing on the horizon, and everything that happens matters going forward. So give me your thoughts on how you thought that game went yesterday, if you agree or disagree with any of the points that I've made, and I'll see you in the next one.
