FIXING THE £900,000 BUGATTI VEYRON I BOUGHT WITH A HUGE PROBLEM
Today I'm going to attempt to drive the Bugatti Veyron I bought for the very first time but clearly I can't drive it like this.
The reason this car is in two halves is because it's got a gearbox problem.
In the last video we received it back and finally after five months hopefully it's fixed. It's been a long time coming, getting this gearbox back next to this beautiful car.And as you've all seen, it's not been smooth sailing. We had a problem when we tested the gearbox. We've got a leak down the front of the transmission. The seal had a major leak.
But then miraculously, it suddenly stopped. So we are not sure if we are safe or not.Are we going to put the gearbox back in the car?Or is this seal just not worth the risk?We can't get a seal. It's a Bugatti specific part.
We are having to gamble. What do you think about that seal?
We were just saying, weren't we, that whenever we service these, there's always a little bit of sweat in around that area or anywhere. And it wasn't a big leak, was it?
It was a sweat out of the seal.
The last time was just a sweat out, like it was just a little bit moist.
And every one we see has this, just a mist of gearbox oil under the gearbox. So that's a standard thing.Every single one, without exception, on a service. So potentially, this is the seal that is causing that issue but I really want to make a seal noise oh oh because he keeps had a big seal.
This is Matt and Chris from Furlonger Cars and as you have seen in the previous videos they are the Bugatti specialists and later in the video we will get onto exactly why it's here. But for now, we need to get cracking on getting this gearbox back into the car.Because hopefully, by the end of this video, I want to be sat in my car, driving it forwards and, importantly, backwards. That's, of course, if the seal doesn't leak and the new clutch works.Right, brilliant, good luck.I'll be back when it's finished.
I know I'm Alfie and I'm Alfie.
The first bit to go back on is the gearbox oil cool system. This was needed on our test rig.It is where a hell of a lot of the oil is stored, used to help stop the gearbox and clutch from overheating. It was cleaned, removing any swarf and fibre debris which previously caused the clutch to burn out.Chris also refits the accumulators and the pump, which I'm going to try and find a way of renewing these later on.You can also start to see the attention to detail Furlongers make.
every bolt is marked as being tightened. They are one of the world's leaders in understanding, fixing and servicing Veyrons. But there is another big reason that my Veyron are here.Furlongers specialise in restoration, from a Lamborghini Countach to F40s to a £5 million Ferrari 288 GTO.They win awards at this stuff. And with rare cars like my Bugatti Veyron comes even rarer spare parts.
And if they can't get a bit they need, then they engineer it and make it themselves. But the magic is 20 years on.They make it better, lighter, stronger than the original.by using the latest materials and technology. These guys, well, they are on it.And it wasn't long before Chris sniffed out our first hurdle.
What have you found?
So we're just building up the oil tank system now. We've got one of the cooler lines, just got a small weep.I mean, it's under no pressure already.I'm going to hold the pipe up.We're just getting a small sort of drip of fluid. So we're going to pull this pipe off.
And hopefully, we've just got a failed O -ring inside it.We've got a little O -ring.small nick in it where it's been assembled so we'll just change that we'll refit it it should just be a solve off thisshelf o -ring so yeah we'll pull that off make sure there's no remains of the o -ring in the tank and then should be good to go.
That is a great spot as that o -ring is only accessible when the car is split in two.that tiny 50 pence rubber seal ring could have been a total nightmare further down the line. And I'm pretty sure if this was at a main dealer we would have had to replace the entire pipe. The oil tank, accumulators and pump are now fitted so we can move on to the main event. The moment we have all been waiting for. This is a huge deal.

Get started freeWhen I first bought this car, I had never even seen this gearbox. All I knew, it was partially paid for and partially fixed in Holland. So understandably, there were a few doubters.
That's Mark's spaghetti that's been to Montessori.I'm not laughing, Mark, but I think you'll be lucky to be driving that this year. It's been swapped around so many times, hasn't it?Someone else has taken it apart, then it's been moved, and then someone else has moved it from there.Oh my days, there's going to be bits everywhere.
Mate, I know this car. That car's going to cost you a lot of money.I mean, that's got to pass, that car.
You're very quiet.
I'm just absolutely gobsmacked.
We tracked it down to Pascal at KMP Powertrains. He'd been rebuilding this gearbox for a year, reverse engineering clutch plates which Bugatti wouldn't sell him.And in the meantime, I was getting ripped off, trying to buy a spare just -in -case gearbox from a dodgy con man in Malaga.Thank you, Andrew. After six months, Pascal finished my gearbox and we got it back to the UK and it went straight onto a test rig.But that wasn't straightforward.
We have two very important questions. Will the leaky main seal hold up?We can't get a replacement and is our new clutch the right material? On manufacture we basically had to make an educated guess.
That's the seal in there. What we'll do is we'll put a thin line of grease on that and make some to this surface here so we'll just double check that's all good.Dry and clean.
What's this process called?
Greasing the shaft, yeah.Essential.
The seal is a gamble, but it's a gamble right now that we have no option on.Downside, if it does start leaking again, it's a split the car in half again problem. So this is a pray and hope situation. But there is some method to our madness.Chris is manually turning over the gearbox to align the master spline. This basically means the gear needs to be in the exact right position.
We need to be very careful here as none of this is accessible lighter. But after some shimmying, wiggling, playing and pulling, we heard a very satisfying noise. That's it, she's in.First time for like a couple of years.A massive shout out to everyone who has helped to get this gearbox back attached to the engine. This moment has taken six months of someone knowing someone.
The best way to get stuff done.Initially, Ed and Rick, ex -Ricardo, knew Rob and Andrew from Lsense, who knew a man at Revitec. And together, all the old engineers came together to help Pascal, to set up the gearbox to where we are today. It's a funny old world, and to think we've got all this far with zero help from Bugatti. Then Chris attached all the mighty oil lines and electrical connectors. We know contamination is very detrimental on this hydraulic DCT gearbox.
So Furlongers are taking every step calmly and thoroughly and then finally it's back together.Everyone take a moment.Right today is the day when Vey and Ron or Vey, which one are we going to do do you reckon?I think that's Vey and that's Ron.Hopefully become Vey Ron.I say today, it might be tomorrow, it might be next week, it might be next month, but The optimist in me is saying, today, that's going to go like that.
And this is going to be, like, I can't believe how well Chris has done.Like, you know, considering how complex this car is, to get as far as he did in one day is next level. So clean, so tidy. And this gives me confidence that I always knew that this was going to be a good car.Yes, it was a part. And yes, it was dusty.
But you've got to think this is a Veyron, a Mansory Veyron, with 9 ,000 miles on, which has never been crashed, never had any bad history, apart from nobody's been able to fix it.And we have got the dream team, the ultimate team. And today, fingers crossed, we're going to go that and go forward. But more importantly, we're going to go that, we're going to go backwards. So before we stick Vey and Ron back together, there is one final thing that we need to do.Right, this test rig.
All what we've been through, all what the lads have been through, all what our team has been through is about getting no contamination in the hydraulic oil because that thing there is full oftiny little bits which obviously once get blocked will burn the clutch out and this car would be in the same situation yet again. So we know this is perfectly clean, we know this is perfectly clean and all the pipes but the bit which is on the car which everybody has said about about uncontaminating the rest of the car is the rear diff. The rear diff is on the same system as our gearbox. It shares the same hydraulic oil. There are some extra filters in between, but to eliminate any risk of dirt, Chris is pulling apart all the lines and is going to blow them through with clean, compressed air.
This is a little bit of a double edged sword because we want it to be clear. But if it is dirty, it's also pretty cool because we realize then that what we've done desperately need doing and it proves yet again that that test rig and bringing it here to Furlongers was our only option.Right, it's got both of the pipes here from the rear diff. What's the best way for Reece to just catch it in his mouth and then spit it back out?

Get started freeI had a joke then but I'm not going to say it.
Everyone's thinking it anyway, it doesn't matter.
Don't even need to say it anymore.
We have learned that the oil galleries in this box are so fine that contamination and blockages can be from dirt not visible to the human eye.so bits like we just blew out would have been an issue.
There's tiny pieces in the bottom.
That is dirt though, isn't it?
Yeah, it is dirt in there.I mean, they're so, so minute. But that's, look at that bit.And that's a really...
That's a big lump, that is.
If that had sat in the wrong place, that would have been enough to cause a massive issue. So well worth doing. We are confident we have done everything humanly possible to get this whole system clean. The diff, the gearbox and the tank.
Right, so now we're going to fill the gearbox.tank with oil.I reckon about 14, 16 litres, so quite a lot.
Nobody could ever imagine how much money that stuff is.
Yeah, yeah.
With the VAT, that's about 300 quid.
It's crazy, isn't it?So yeah, just eight jugs to go in and then we're good. We're good hydraulically. We've run it through a paint filler as well, which is..
.Even now with new stuff?Yes.Well, imagine just the dust in the air now, do you know what I mean?It only needs a bit of Reece's dandruff in there. It's going to clog it right up, yeah.
It looks like gravy.
There is a reason we are filling as many fluids as we can now, because at the moment we can see all around the back of the car.We can touch, smell, feel every joint, link and pipe around the system. If we filled it after they and Ron are back together, leaks are harder to see and almost impossible to fix without splitting the car apart again.Spilt it.Should I get a big piece of rag?
I guess this isn't a rag.No, let's not use that. That's from the factory, that is.

Get started freeGot one.Is that any better?
Let's not use that.
And good news, all the expensive oil we put in, none of it came back out.So we are ready to start the huge moment. This is it, when Vey meets Ron.We're about to slide this car together. After all this time, after months of hard work, months of people putting their heart and soul, their expertise, all their memories from the past, have gone to make this possible. And we're at Furlongers now and we're about to see a Vey and a Ron, finally, and I know you guys have been desperate for this, become a Vey -Ron.
We don't know if it's going to work yet,but let's at least get it together.
Now, putting these cars back together is a very delicate process. There are lots of very important coolant hoses, water lines, fuel pipes, electrical cables, and some titanium bolts.Oh, no!Now, Bugatti have a very cool space -age trolley rig to make sure everything is in perfect alignment. But not surprisingly, we can't borrow that.So Furlongers have made a brilliant, much more simple version, somewhere in between finwheels and SpaceX.
How are we going to stop anything pinching?
The two of us will be doing it without Matt here as well.Back and forth, it rolls together really nicely. So these are obviously the same height, the right height, ready.Use the spirit level to check these mating surfaces are flat to each other. So, in theory, the height should be very similar. We might have one or two mil out.
We might have to raise the tyre pressures or just jack it in certain places.
So, before we close up, I will leave my mark, which I hope to never see again. There is a lot on the line here.I paid a huge sum of money for a car which we are not sure works. But we just need to make sure that we don't add to any problems. We can't just order a clip we bend.We can't order a hose we split.
We can't order a connector we crush. There is probably a thousand parts on this car, which are simply irreplaceable. This is stressful. There's just so much to go wrong now.Imagine crimping all around.Oh, he's come here for...
Just come for the end, isn't he?
Yeah, I thought, you know, I'll just put it all together now.
Brilliant.
If it goes wrong, it's going to be terrible.
Come for the fanfare.I remember first looking at this car with my good friend Ollie, thinking what a waste of a day off work.Thinking that car will never be back on the road. And everyone agreed with me.But the more I thought about it, the more I dreamt it could drive again. And we are making that dream come true.
Remember, I have never seen this car in one piece. This is going to be amazing.Let's connect they and Ron.together.It isn't as easy as it looks. It has to be millimetre perfect.
The right height, the right angle, exactly the right pitch.
If you take a step back and squint, there's an A1 there.

Get started freeGod, there is, yeah. When we felt it was all lined up, before the final push, lots of parts needed joining together.Chris and James attached the fuel lines and cooling hoses.Do you want me to go stand at your Yaris? When it looked ready Chris did a final measure to make sure it was parallel. On this side I'm seeing nine inches and on the other side I'm seeing a good eight and a half inches.
So a bit of adjusting and a bit of a jack and we were ready to go.We pushed and squeezed but it seemed to be stuck on something. Some more wiggling and we were nearly there. The bolt end was sat in the edge of the hole and we just needed good old -fashioned manpower. The full Furlonger team was persuading this to join together which was really cool. And as you can see, after all that time, it was back together.
Wow, for the first time for years, my car is rolling. It's in one piece and sat on four wheels and it looks amazing. It's mad, after all this time, I've never seen it like this. And what's also crazy is I've never had a driver's seat in it.I still haven't ever sat in this car properly. We don't know if it starts, and there's a lot of work to do before we can turn that key.
In fact, I haven't seen the key either.Right, now this is where the real, real tension starts, because we just don't know exactly what we've got.Obviously, we've got all these pipes to put together, all the coolants, the fluids, the hydraulics, all the electrics, but if you miss just one single clip or pipe, then obviously it's not gonna run, and there's a lot.
Right, this is where we see it is.An MR2.That's how it's cleaned.under here, isn't it?I can't believe it's a Bugatti.
It's my Bugatti.
It's crazy.It's a good day.
And I'm excited of the prospect that hopefully later in this video, I'm going to be driving my Bugatti Veyron for the very first time.James is hooking up some hydraulic hoses, which carry hydraulics.I'll be honest, I was doing some work emails, but in the time lapse, they look very busy. And Chris is on the titanium joining bolts, cleverly made from that material designed to break in a crash. Not sure how that makes sense, but there you go.So after a few hours of connecting, joining and tightening, let's find out what parts so far we have missing.
Right, this is the first of many which we feared was going to happen. So we are missing a nut.Doesn't look like a standard nut.
So that is a titanium nut.
which I've never seen in B &Q.So we're going to leave it off there because obviously it's easy to get to.So we've got a source, a nut, and there's also a bolt missing from the engine mount. And that's, is that titanium again?Yes, titanium, yeah.
So you're missing like two of possibly the most important bolts you could possibly need.
So tomorrow morning, when they open, we're going to call Bugatti and pray that they sell them. That looks like a very special spline nut, and it bolts the car together. And an original OEM bolt in the engine mount would be a much better solution. So fingers crossed, they will take our money. But we also have something else that we need from them.Technically, the car is back together, but we need to do a few more jobs before we try.
and drive it.Firstly, we need to get the car ready to press start to finally see if my engine runs, which again, I can't be sure of.We were told it had a misfire and hopefully that's not a knocking crank.I was also told about a few more issues.Apparently, the rear wing doesn't work. The front nose lift has left the chat and the clock stood still.
Remember, we can buy zero parts from Bugatti. And of course, the gearbox.Leaky seal, reverse gear and clutch material. We definitely have a long way to go yet, but we are determined to get this car moving in this video.Right, where are we at?
That's pretty much done underneath. One hydraulic line, you know, the damaged hydraulic line.because you've got to make new.
You can see from the old footage, this hydraulic line has been joined. At a guess, I would say in the past when this car was split and then pushed back together, it was crushed and fixed with a part from underneath a sink.Redditch style.
So we're going to change that. We've welded a new unit on the end and then we're going to make a braided line about yay long. And then once you've got the measurement right and we know it's good, we'll have that made into a, you know, a proper crimped hose.

Get started freeSo this hose is only a temporary solution. And when we are back next time, Chris will have made a permanent hose.
I reckon that pipe front to rear has got to be four or five grand if it's available.Definitely.It'll be crazy money.
And that's why at times I feel like us being forced to go it alone isn't all bad.
That is about an inch too long.Better than being too long.
Yeah, yeah.
It's the only time when I'm complaining that it's too long.
Better be really annoying if a tickle did go in there. Thanks, I'm rich.
ticklish as well. And all fixed for now, which looks pretty permanent to me.But importantly, we can reach it and swap out when the new one arrives. That is not going to stop us driving this car today, hopefully. And whilst Chris cracked on, I took a moment to give this car the recognition it deserves, because it really is next level special. How much do you reckon that's worth?
I'm going to go against what I hate saying, but it's a VW part.
I want my money back.
The build quality is amazing, isn't it?
When you look at everything, everything's done nice.
But do you know when Matt takes apart the cars and all this is crappy welds and different colours and everything's beautiful.Even the bit you can't see is beautiful.Next up, it's the prop shaft. This is the sort of part that if it was missing, number one, Bugatti prices would be crazy, but number two, they wouldn't have sold it to us anyway, so we would have been knackered. This prop joins the front -wheel drive to our newly repaired gearbox, and hopefully soon it will be spinning. What is surprising so far, we nearly have all the bits, but I will shut up right now as I best not jinx it.
With everything bolted on so it's able to run, we started adding some crazy amounts of fluid. This is where we hope we don't see a puddle on the floor, which we'll highlight to show if we do have any leaks. As we have heard throughout the series, one of the most important and precious parts on this car is the irreplaceable TCU, the transmission control unit, which for years has been rolling around my driver's footwell, not even plugged in.
And is this the sort of thing we can't get another one?You won't get another one of these, no.
And the problem is there is a lot of small electrical pins in this connector. And this has been the worry for our epic team from the start. We just don't know the condition this is in until we try firing it up.So Chris handles it carefully.
This is how we fix these.
Whoa, check out this girthy tube.
Transcribe all your audio with Cockatoo
Get started freeWhat the hell goes in there? So that's your main high -pressure coolant line. That's coolant?Yeah, that's coolant through there. So you've got high pressure for your engine. So that gets full?
That gets full of coolant and then underneath you've got a low pressure which does both the charge coolers for the turbos.I think the fuel capacity is..
.This car has 10 radiators in total, uniquely designed to manage the immense heat generated by its quad -turbocharged W16 engine. The system includes three engine water -cooling radiators, three air -to -liquid intercooler radiators, one engine oil radiator, one transmission oil radiator, differential oil radiator, and one air -conditioning condenser radiator. Now bear in mind, most cars have one radiator. This Spaghetti Veyron really is one.Ridiculous.
With so many radiators, all old, and this car has been travelling from garage to garage, unprotected by bodywork, we have no idea what we're dealing with. This car, from the day we owned it, has had no water inside any of this system. We are blind. And as a rule, old radiators are susceptible to having holes in.And if we do have any leaks, we can't just buy a replacement radiator. And to get these front ones out to repair is not an easy job.
The whole of the front end of this car will need dismantling. And I think, right now, we have enough problems. So look, please be on our side.
We'd obviously lose pressure if there was a problem.Yeah, so obviously what I'm looking for is the gauge. So again, we're good.
Yeah, we're looking good.
So now that's literally pulling fluid out of here, just firing it straight into there. And with that, mate, obviously less air bleeding now.Yeah, that's one of the main benefits of it, yeah.
Happy days, not a single leak. And in goes a million liters of coolant. And I know it looks like I'm sat around doing nothing.I'm actually making a potentially game -changing phone call.Right, we're missing a few parts.Nothing too bad, but we've got the tub nut, the engine mount bolt, and that one hose, which we might as well go back to OEM if we can get it.
So, we're gonna ring Bugatti parts and see if they've change their mind a bit because obviously we're not asking for a gearbox, we're not asking for them to, you know, do some sort of structural work, we're just asking, like we're literally just asking for a nut, a bolt and a pipe.So you'd think, you'd think they're going to sell us that.We have seen in Matt's Veyron videos, if he did want Bugatti to sell him the parts, his only option was to drop the car off at the service centre and they would fit them. But it seems a little excessive for them to fit a nut.Even Mark from Redditch has the skills for that. And what makes it worse is it's a trip to Manchester or London in a trailer.
That, of course, is another day off work, which I can't really do.Yeah, I'm just after a couple of parts, please.A Bugatti Veyron 2006.It's literally just a nut and a bolt.
Please. It seems a bit mad to bring the car to you to fit a nut.
I checked with our channel's barrister, Harry.I just wanted to check how this all sits, as I feel like a supply of a specialised nut is not going to hurt anyone. And let's face it, I'm a million pound deep into investing in the Epic Bugatti brand. And from the start, I haven't skimped and saved.I wanted them to fit me a brand new gearbox. So is what they are doing legal?
We are franchisee in this country. We are by the manufacturer. That becomes all or nothing.slightly.Are they bound by the manufacturer's contract?Well, yes, they are, because they sort of take on their guidelines.
Going back to what the question was, are they doing something that's legal?Because it's their contract, and it's a contract they do with their, for example, if you bought a new car, sign a contract, and this may have a contract saying this is the sort of warranty, this is the after sales, and here you go.You are bound by it, but the person who then purchasesthe car further down the line, or well further down the line, well, there's no such contract between them.So the company itself, who's monopolizing the franchisee in the UK, well, they make their own decisions by the looks of it.But there is a resolution to this, Mark, because there is the motor ombudsman.
Now they provide a very important service to consumers as well as businesses who need to resolve these sort of automotive disputes. So the whole point of the motor ombudsman, and this is all free, so what normally happens Mark is this, for what you're asking for, It's not an unusual request, and I just want this nut. Here's the nut that I require. And for them to say, oh, we're not going to supply it because the manufacturer has told us to supply it.If we supply it, we will lose our franchise. And I think that's so unreasonable in cases like this.
And it's not the first time that this has happened. The company then has to respond to the onslaught. They are more or less guided by that code of practice.I think you are right, Mark, to face this. And like I said, I'm sure a lot of people are in similar positions and they sometimes don't know how to take it any further, but you can.
Yeah, and I think you're right because, and I'm sure like you say, a lot of our viewers have felt the same way because it is a monopoly, isn't it?And it is a control because they are controlling the market by literally giving the consumer no choice but to pay whatever hourly rate whatever you know they've got because they've got no competition after they've got nobody to to draw a price against it's whatever they say right from what Harry is saying it's not illegal but let me know please in the comments do you think it's right do you think a company as big as they are should have the monopoly and have thecontrol that you have no choice as a consumer who spent a lot of money invested in that brand that you have no choice but to take that car into that dealership to just get a simple nut fitted.Let me know.I'd be really interested to see what you guys have to say. We've come a long way with our amazing team and having these Bugatti pushbacks have not been ideal.

Get started freeBut I think for now, we crack on and just search for our own alternatives. So when I bought this car, a lot of the concerns from you guys and for me was what damage has happened while this car's been sat still.Bolts and nuts could drop into some of those orifices. So, James is going to now get his camera, which I might borrow one weekend.
I just want to look down towards the turbos, so just to make sure there's nothing in there, you know.
Imagine if we see that nut we're missing.
That'd be good, you wouldn't have to buy one then.
If the turbos look healthy and clean, we are ready to add some power and finally turn that dash on, which is super exciting stuff. If we do get over the line, this whole gamble will have paid off.Yes, this car looked a state when we first saw it, but on car vertical, we could see it does have a really good history. Now, if you check out my car, it's actually got a yellow warning light for mileage, but If you look down at the chart, it's because some genius entered in kilometres instead of miles. But as you can see, it's never been crashed. It's got no outstanding finance and it's never been stolen.
Is it a boy or a girl?
It's a girl.Another girl.
That there is the turbine on the turbo you can see, and it's looking pretty good.No old sandwiches and no missing nut. With this camera, we can make sure we're safe and make sure that there is no hidden secrets.unlike some of the cars out there for sale today. And if you see this bad report here, you can see it's been in a crash. And if you scroll down, you can see the photos from when it was auctioned off at the car crash auction website.
If you had bought this car without knowing about the bad history, you would have been left massively uninsured.out of pocket now if you want to check out your car a friend's car or a car you're looking to buy you can use my discount code mark at checkout and you can even save up to 50 when you use a multi bundle right thank you car vertical for sponsoring this video link is in the description and let's get on with trying to get this car to move and the other side was also clean damn no not so next up is the air filters which i decided was a bit of me I never thought I'd be working on a Bugatti Veyron, especially not mine, but that just goes to show you how crazy life has got.I'm going to let you take over.Yep, done. So, the gearbox is fitted in the car. They and Ron, and now they Ron, and all the pipes, tubes, lines, connectors are together.
Exhaust is back on and the brakes are bled.We even have a new battery. And that leaves us just one thing to do, and that is to turn it on.Six months ago, when I bought this car, not a lot of people saw my vision, which I do totally get.It did look like it was never going to go back together. So whatever happens from now on, we have made some amazing progress.
So right now, I get to find out what I actually bought. For the first time, we get to see if this car works. We are nearly there.Nearly, nearly there.Nervous, worried, happy.A bit of everything, but we have power.
Battery's connected. We're going to hit the button.First of all, make sure there's no fuel leaks because obviously everything's been off.And then we're going to start it.Chris has got a bit of an idea about where we're going to put it into gear, which I'll let Chris explain that.
We're going to check some levels, see what errors we get.Static.Then we're going to manually put it in neutral. We're going to put it outside. As Rob reported, it might jump back to forwards.and I don't want it going through that lot.
It's just going to go through that, it's going to go through that wall and it's going to end up in a body shop ready to be repaired because it smashed the **** out of it.How much is that worth?
Two billion.
It's basically going to be like a wooden block underneath my tyre. The reason Rob is worried about the initial start is the kiss point will be adapted to the old clutch.Basically, the bike, the moment it disengages and the car creeps forward, it's not set to the new clutch we have in here right now.So it might not go anywhere. It might be perfect or it might decide to crack on, which I would need to stop it.And fast.
So, in preparation for that worst case scenario, we are going to give ourselves a lot of room when we first engage.a gear.So after literally going to sleep in 2024 it's finally awake. Our gearbox pressure pump has run and our accumulators are holding pressure. So that means we have pressure which now will at least give us a chance to select forwards or reverse but quick check and no fuel leaks.Gold star to Chris and James.
The mileage is one, two, three, four, five.

What would that speed though?
Right, so we're just going to run for 10 seconds, no more.I just want to do a really short run so I can check hydraulic fluid levels and stuff like that because it's going to draw a lot of fluid in quickly where everything's been run dry.So five, 10 seconds. If you hear a funny noise or whatever, I'll tell you to kill him.Shout stop if I've got to stop, like, shout.Yeah, and you'll have a cover the brake in case it is in gear.
It's not in gear at the moment, but we don't know what's going to happen, if it's going to jump into gear or...
A hell of a lot is riding on this moment, and that isn't just about me.A lot of people have put their heart and soul into getting this car working, so I am beyond nervous.Right, so drop the ignition on.Just once, yeah?
You've got to do the key first.
Oh, yeah.
So all the way around.Leave it, so you can park, that's good.
Put on the brake.
Common sense says it's been sat for a while and the fuel system is dry.But the negative in me thought I was cooked. One thing is for sure, we definitely have a misfire. But trust me, I don't care.Thank you to you guys, I massively appreciate you all.If you are not subscribed, please click that button, as it shows YouTube you like what we do, and it will let you know the second a new video is uploaded.
And of course, it's free to do.It sounds rough, but I'm sure we can diagnose that misfire in future. For now, I want to see about this clutch and gearbox, the reason this car has been left to die in the corner of garages. So then we moved the car outside, as Matt was precious about some old Formula 1 car, whichis quite a good one.
Let's just quickly take a look at what you've got to avoid.
Which thing's the best to it?How expensive's that gate?
I'd imagine that's a lot of money, isn't it?I just don't get anything by it, possibly.
What is there, a Mercy, a 355, a GT3 RS, two F40s and an F12?
Keep away from this side, I'm feeling.
So now we get to find out.
Has the last six months of stress and sleepless nights been worth it?It's been amazing for our channel, and it's got us past a million subs, which is mind -blowing.But for now, let's please all of us cross our fingers and toast.

Get started freeOh, my God.How does it feel?
I can't even explain how I feel.I'm so scared. It's either going to go one or two ways.If this works, it's just going to be, oh, God, I'm getting quite emotional.
Please, please, please, please work.
Yeah, so we're going to run it up, get a bit of heat into it, and then obviously, first of all, forwards. And if we've got forwards, then the big E, backwards. And then we celebrate.
Fernando's on furlonger, which is probably going to be your highlight of the day.You didn't have to pay for lunch.
Do you think it's going to go?
Do I think it's going to go?
Yeah.
What, through the gate? No, I do, yeah.
You think it will.Do you think it's going to go into reverse?I do.
I think it's going to be perfect.
Chris, do you reckon it's going to go?
I'm 100 % confident.
Everyone at Furlongers was very confident, but me, I was feeling slightly under pressure.
Yeah, start it up again.
Ready?
Yeah.
On start up again, we are sounding very lumpy.

But after the initial start up, the engine calmed down and sounded sweet.Until the car shouted, with big words on the dash, saying stop.
Turn it off, yeah?Yeah, big sign comes saying stop.
It's good though, it sounds, it already is levelled out.
It was basically asking for a little more coolant, so we topped it up and tried again.
This time if it's all good, Chris will tell you to go forwards, yeah?
Really, we're going to go gears?
Yeah, so aim straight for the gate, not for the two F40s.if it does go wrong.Matt explains the gears in reverse to you as well.
Yeah, so I'm going just straight across.
That's first.
That's reverse. And then you come to a stop, you go neutral, let it go to the middle, then back to reverse.
Okay, good luck everyone.
Okay, no stops.
Everyone sat down for the moment.of truth.Yes, we have forward. The bloody thing goes forward. But as I move the gear stick across and back, will it go into reverse?
I can give someone advice that they can own a Bugatti Veyron, they could service it every year, and I think it could cost you £15 ,000 a year.Very confident that that's the maximum it would cost.
It's elegant, it's luxurious, isn't it?Bugatti Veyron.
From the moment Karl made me realise the running cost of a Veyron might be possible, life has just got crazy.
The Veyron was the daddy. The Veyron created the whole Bugatti fastest car in the world, changed the blueprint of how cars are engineered.

Get started freeAnd Oli introduced us to where we are now in Vey and Rom.And things, unfortunately, were worse than we thought. So you found a problem. There was a problem.
Yeah.So what we found is we see some extreme wear on the flash plates.
Then we met the people who designed and built the gearbox. They reached out as they wanted to see this car go into reverse once again.
OK, now just think how hard it is to get 1 ,000 horsepower onto the road, OK?Imagine how strong the gearbox has got to be.
We created a team, the Dream Team, a veil of knowledge better than anyone else in the world. And those people, they have my back and they're going to be friends for life. And finally, the big question, have we solved the reverse issue?Yes, yes, yes, everything was worth it.It works, it bloody works.
Pleasure, it's what we do, it's what we love.Happy, mate?Yeah. No, brilliant, brilliant.
And I've got some...And I've got some...
It works.
It works, and I'm backwards.
Love you.
Love you.
Love you.Well done, everybody.Well done, team.
What a team, what a channel.Thank you, everyone.Cannot believe this works. You've got to think this car was in two halves.we managed to buy it for half the price pretty much than what it's worth and all that stress and then all the people all you guys have supported this so far all the people involved thank you so so so much like it's far from finished isn't it it's far from finished but we go forwards and more importantly we go back and i can't wait to show you the next videohopefully this goes to go down the road and I finally get to drive a car which I never dreamt would even ever be possible a Bugatti Veyron.
See you next Tuesday 6 p .
