Because while we expect, they should be playing well.AJ, Boozer, Darren Peterson, Caleb Wilson.By the way, he's my sleeper in this draft.He's been my sleeper since high school, in that class.What I'm saying is Malik Thomas, right?Somebody who shouldn't have left, in my opinion, in my opinion, shouldn't have left Arkansas, shouldn't have left school early, but took a gamble and a bet on himself.

You know what?I believe in my craft.I believe in my skill.I believe in my work ethic.I just want to get there.There's different strategies to getting there.

I just want to get there.And when I get there, I'm going to show you why I wanted this so bad." So he came out up against the wall, up against the eight ball.Drafted second round, could have been a top 20 pick.Up against the eight ball, drafted second round.Now you get an opportunity to play in the summer league against all these niggas who just went before you.

And he's showing up.He's playing basketball.He's out there hooping and really proving himself.Whereas these other guys ain't gotta prove themselves.

Well, he gotta, every day means something for him.You get picked 34, 30, every day, something means something to you and to those people.So for you to take that and go in the Summer League and have the Summer League let you do it, like, I take my hat, I truly take my hat off to you.

Like, I mean, I'm Caleb.We got the same people.Like, Caleb, when I first seen his skill set, I was like, I might pick him number one.Like, for sure top three because he can play five, four, three.Right?The way he moves his attributes, he got the one -on -one game, you know, fades.

Like, I'm watching like, yo, he can, like, he cover a lot of positions.So, when you're talking about drafting, you can pick him at the five.Get a five and play him at the four.Get a four, play him at the three.So he can play three different positions.But I do like, you know, young kid from, you know, Arkansas, his only problem was with his skill set.

If you go into the draft, and you can't go against somebody else, and you got to work out by yourself, that's the downfall.Five on five, one on one, that's his skill set.So him playing in summer league, he's going to thrive.Him going in a workout and everybody going to dodge him.Like if you're a top -five pick and you know he's a one -on -one guy, you ain't working out with him.He dangerous.

Yeah, so you're gonna dodge him and every time he can't work out with somebody, he gonna slip.Because now it's just him and his ability and everybody's like...But that's what the yolkage is and all of them slip for because they're five -on -five guys.They're one -on -one guys.So if you can't get that body inside that workout, it makes you look bad.

Is that more on the fall of how players are evaluated though?Because it feels like guys like that slip through the cracks all the time where it's like we see them kill and then it's draft time and it's like oh he's not really tall enough or he doesn't have the right wingspan whatever it is and then it ends up having a bunch of gms and a bunch of front office guys lose their jobs because a guy like that but that's why i hate the draft process because you can't like it's college basketball right so it's

was a top tier point guard, how many other top tier point guards did you play against in your position?Right?Some of you played none.So you're coming in with your college status into this workout, right?I'm a top tier guard.I want to show you that I'm better than you.

You're going to dodge me the whole time.Shit, I'm a dodging person that's trying to get me.So we've never been tested actually in real life yet, right?So what ends up happening is you get, you don't know who's who.You don't know who has heart.You don't know who's a gamer, right?

All I'm going through is these little workouts.I'm going to put you through that has no impact on real basketball.Are you going to sit here, do a little jab, right?I'll be like, oh, he really got no skill.And he might be a one on one phenomenon.Right.

Right.But I would never know that because my workouts is not dedicated to what your skill level is.So we don't know who's who until you put him in a game and be like, maybe I made a mistake.OK, maybe he's not that guy.So it's like, I mean, you can see who can be a flop.And you can see, all right, he could be a steal because he gets to this system or he got on this team, they gonna know how to use him.

But for the most part, most teams don't know what the hell they're doing anyway.Right?

You just draft in talent.Yeah.Especially at that level.Like if you top five, then yeah, you know how you implement in that top five pick into what you have going on.Outside of that, it's like hit or miss.You might find a couple from six to 10.

You might find a couple from 10 to 20.those become gems.And at that point in time, I got to draft the best, you know, what's the best of the rest off of what I know.Okay.I know Malik works hard.I've seen him.

I've witnessed him because of the amount of content that is out around him about his work ethic.So now I can take a chance at 30 something because there's no pressure on me as an organization.If it don't work,it's cool.If it works, then I got a diamond in the rough.Right?

So it's always those two sides of it.Got you, got you.

Cam, you see any sort of parallels with that, with like being on SNL and being on the team that's like, or being on a show that's so established and being, I guess, not a rookie, but one of the younger guys on the team having to prove yourself every time he get a skid or every time he get a chance on the show?

Yeah, for sure.I mean, I think it's anything where you're doing something on the lines of like professionally, trying to come in and everybody's already like really good at the thing, you know what I'm saying?And then trying to like make everybody know like, I can also I can also do it, you feel me?So yeah, I mean, it's kind of the same thing on the lines of like, I'm also good at this.I can do it.I promise I can do it too.

Cam, you walk into a new, into a show with 50 years, I would say of just history.Did you feel any imposter syndrome, like your first day on the set?

And that's why I think I got to be able to understand and shine more in what was going on at SNL.It's insane when you think about, I drive down a Hollywood Boulevard in LA and shit, and every billboard is like, Somebody from SNL.Mm -hmm.I'd walk through those hallways and see those people.It's like, oh shit Like I'm a part of some like a family.Yeah, like a crazy like alumni.

I'm an SNL fan, like I've watched it my whole life and there's like specific spots that folks get on SNL when you know like, alright.he's going to be somebody to watch out for.You know what I'm saying?Like when you get that weekend update spot, like with no character and it's like, we're just going to let Cam Patterson talk for like five minutes.That's a, that's a, that's a massive look, especially for your first show.No, it was crazy.

I had an advantage.And this is that NBA child thing where most people don't realize that the player himself is still in his career when his child is going through those developmental stages, right?So it's hard for the father to really put in because he's still put into the career to keep the family going.So me, I was retired.So I was retired before Elijah started basketball.So when he decided to touch the ball, I was there hands -on, right, six in the morning, let's go, because I'm still working out.

So I got to really train him, right, to really see, like, okay, all right, okay, now, ooh, shit, now he hit a gross bird.Oh, now you're talking different.Now he's 6 '7", 6 '8".Long arms, you really have a shot.Right, so then, you know, get in a car accident, almost lose his life.And then, you know, getting back into some type of rhythm, knowing I don't know what the mental is going to do for him because, you know, like going through that experience, you sit with whatever's going on in your head.

I remember like going in his room and, you know, he's sweating, you know, jumping and shit like, oh, you're good, bro.You're good.So I know like there's going to be like mental things that's gonna, you know, like, uh, keep up with him for a while.Yeah, that process.Yeah.And then, you know, then, you know,
