We at Bloomberg are happy to announce that nearly half of all US AI data centers planned for 2026 have been delayed or canceled. Yes! Let's go! Another huge W for gaming! Hopefully this helps the price of RAM continue to go down for consumers. This last year has been insane with console prices, so it's good to see some progress. Why are these data centers being canceled though? The immense power requirement from the grid is too much for a lot of the AI data centers being built.
For the ones that are built, nearby residents see their electric bill skyrocket to nearly double or triple what they were paying before. Wait, what? You're saying homeowners have to pay for the electricity that these AI data centers are using? Yes, exactly. The data centers share the electricity cost with nearby tenants. This is so wrong.
This isn't just an issue for gaming. This is gonna hurt everyone who lives near these AI data centers. who lives near these AI data centers. I hope more of these get canceled and the AI bubble pops.
