Now if you thought the cost of living was biting now, things could be about to get worse.Ongoing tensions in the Middle East and the end of the fuel excise cut are set to push petrol prices higher.While an increase in the minimum wage could see more costs passed on to consumers.This as the Prime Minister finally acknowledges what's behind One Nation's Rise.

To paraphrase, it's the economy stupid.It's always the economy.

Labor's solution?Begging supporters to donate $27 each to fight One Nation.Joining us to discuss today's headlines is Minister for the Environment Murray Watt and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Ted O 'Brien.Good morning to you both.Murray, a bit rich isn't it?

Well, I think what the Prime Minister has made really clear, Jane, is that our focus has always been and will remain helping Australians with their cost of living pressures.That's why right now we're in the middle of trying to pass legislation to deliver another tax cut to Australian workers that would mean the average Australian worker would get a tax cut of $2 ,800 per year all up.And of course, at the same time, we see the Liberals, Nationals and One Nation all joining up together to try to block that tax cut from happening harder for young people to get into their first homes.So, you know, that's going to remain our focus.We know that there's a lot of Australians doing it tough out there and they're sending a message to the major parties that they want us to do better.They want things to change.

We're trying to change things, especially through our tax system and by making it easier for people to get into the housing market.

I mean, those tax cuts are a long way off, Ted.I mean, at least Labor's trying to fight One Nation.They say that you're just trying to copy them.

Well, Jane, I think this is hilarious.If you think of what Murray just said, Australians are amidst a cost -of -living crisis and the Prime Minister wants everybody to donate $27 apiece to the Labor Party.Thanks, Murray.Thanks, Albo.That's really helpful.Australians are hurting right now.

This government has continued to make Australians poorer.The reason why One Nation is rising is Australians have lost confidence in this Labor government because they get poorer by the day.Unfortunately for the Liberal Party, we are yet to earn the trust of the Australian people.in order for them to say that they're backing us for government.And that's a challenge for all of us.But I put this squarely on Anthony Albanese.

He has broken his promises and lied to the Australian people and they are feeling it in their hip pocket.

Murray, do you think the lie and the unpopular budget might be the problem here?

No well I think as I say Jane we're doing everything we possibly can to help Australians with those cost of living pressures and if you look back over the last...

Australians aren't buying that though Murray are you?Do you expect the people sitting at home eating their breakfast right now to think that your government is doing everything they possibly can to alleviate their cost of living pressures?

Well, over the last four years, Jane, not only have we reduced taxes despite that being opposed by Ted and the Liberal Party and One Nation, we've started rebuilding Medicare by making sure that there are more GP practices that can bulk bill and again that's been opposed by the Liberals and One Nation.We're providing substantial new funding for housing because we know we need more homes.That's been opposed by the Liberals and One Nation.making is that, you know, we understand things are still really tough for Australians at the moment and we need to do more, but every step we have taken to try to make life easier for people, the Liberals, Nationals and One Nation have joined up together to try to block that from happening, so that would be even harder for people.

It's everyone else's fault.It's everyone else's fault, Murray, except your team, who actually is in government.This is the highest taxing government in Australian history.The highest spending government in over 40 years.

Well that's not true.John Howard's government was.I mean, make stuff up if you want.

And now you're asking everyday Australians to donate to the Labor Party.

Seriously.Cut us a break mate.Cut the Australian people a break.and the National Party and yet you blame Labor.We're just going to focus on what Australians need which is more assistance with cost of living and that's what we're trying to do with those tax cuts.
