Marines on Embassy Duty in Haiti Exchanged Gunfire with Haitian gangs on 13 November 2025.
Kagan Dunlap
Alright so this isn't breaking news but this only happened a couple days ago and I haven't heard anybody talking about it. Apparently there were some suspected gang members that shot at the Marines that were stationed at the embassy in Haiti at Port-au-Prince which is the capital of Haiti. Now obviously there's been an enormous amount of gang violence in Haiti over the past year. I mean the place has been disintegrating.
The police have been having a difficult time enforcing laws and pretty much gangs have been running around rampant. And the US State Department as well as other US officials have warned any Americans from traveling to the island because of this reason. So apparently the suspected gang members approached and fired at the Marines who then were providing security for the embassy compound.
And the Marines returned fire to neutralize the threat and they adhered to the standard rules of engagement for force protection. The exchange was described as defensive and contained and the assailants retreated shortly after. So whoever you are at the US Embassy in Haiti, congratulations you just earned your combat action ribbon US Embassy in Haiti, congratulations you just earned your combat action ribbon
and that is a very rare thing to see these days.
