Ryan Clark Fired Mid-Commercial Break at ESPN

So you just had ESPN firing Ryan Clark mid -broadcast, and it came after he had several heated arguments with his co -analysts.And while that may have been part of why he was fired, it's actually not the reason why it all happened so fast.Turns out, he was part of this bloodthirsty round of layoffs they just had.He had this cut list that also included Cam Newton, Stefania Bell, Tom Pellicero, and Carl Ravitch, who'd been there for 33 years.And apparently the reason that Clark got fired mid -commercial break was because somehow this list leaked to the media and ESPN was already getting calls about it.And so they got freaked out that other media was gonna beat them to the punch if they didn't do it quick.

And a big key thing you've got is that this is the first round of layoff since ESPN acquired NFL Network, and it's more broadly connected to layoff at its parent company, Disney.And if you didn't already hear, Pixar got sucker punched too.

But also something you've got a lot of people latching on to is the pay.Where, well, Clark, he was reportedly making around $2 million a year.At the same time, you've got it reported that Pat McAfee's in active negotiations to secure record -breaking 60 to $65 million a year deal.Well, you've got him hosting one of the channel's most popular shows.You now have a lot of people blaming his potential raise for these layoffs, which is why you now also have him coming out to defend himself saying there's billions and billions of dollars in these companies and hard decisions have to get made and we don't like any of them.But also he himself admitted this is not the first time this has happened.

Right after he signed his existing $30 million a year contract back in 2023, ESPN announced that it was laying 7 ,000 people off.
