The Navy Seal Mission Into North Korea

This covert SEAL Team 6 mission that went horribly wrong is insane. We only now just found out about it because of this New York Times article. So it went down in early 2019, just days before Donald Trump would meet Kim Jong-un for the second time. The mission was to plan a listening device that would give U.S. officials valuable insight into Kim's thinking before nuclear negotiations. But of course, if the SEALs got caught, it could ruin the talks, lead to a hostage crisis, or even provoke conflict with a nuclear armed nation. And so reportedly with Trump's personal approval, they rehearsed for months and launched the plan.

First, the main submarine parked off the North Korean coast. Then it released two mini subs, which motored into shallower waters just off the beach. And from there, eight SEALs swam ashore, thinking that in the dead of the night, in the winter, nobody was gonna be outside. and reportedly a small boat approach, shining flashlights over the water and a figure splashing into the sea.

So worried that it might be a security patrol, the SEALs opened fire, killing everyone on board. But then when they took a closer look, they found no weapons, no uniforms, just two or three civilians apparently diving for shellfish. And so ultimately they aborted the mission,

dumped the bodies and swam back to the subs. But then Trump and Kim's meeting going ahead as planned, though the talks quickly fell apart and North Korea resumed testing missiles. Now regardless of people's opinions on whether the killings were justified, the Trump administration reportedly never told key members of Congress what happened as is supposed to happen during major events like that.
