The Roomba Hack That Went Too Far | Ninjas Are Butterflies, Sunday Cool
Speaking of hacking, did you hear about the RUBA guy?
No.
This dude, programmer, had a vacuum and he was like, I hate their interface. I hate their app. He was like, works on simple code. I'm gonna get into this. Basically hacked his own $2,000 vacuum because he wanted to make a better app to vacuum his own house. Cracks the code, said it wasn't hard,
and starts controlling the vacuum via this little thing he built. Well, it turns out 2,000 other vacuums operating on the same network and code around the world all simultaneously started doing what he was doing with the one in his home.
Oh my gosh, funny.
It became known, he reported himself. He was like, I now have access to their, you know, it has a camera to navigate. So he was like, I have access to every bit of like Intel that they bring in. It's like dumping into what I built.
He's like, didn't mean to do it. Thought I was just hacking my own thing. And I thought there's no way that's true. Some dude just like, you know, calmly doing that. Some dude just like, you know, calmly doing that. But sure enough, they got hacked.
