Trump going after Canada again.Trump announcing a new 50 % tariff on Canadian imports.

Canada's been very, very tough on us over the years, for many years, and no other president's done anything about it.They need us to survive.Without us, there's no way they can survive.

And that came after Trump suggested Canada should, quote, pay us some damages for the wildfire smoke that has hovered over the United States in recent days.Trump said that he made that comment directly to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Kearney when the two were together for the World Cup final match on Sunday.Harry Anton is out front to tell us something we don't know.How do Canadians feel?

I think they feel exactly the same way that he feels.Donald Trump has managed to pull a wonderful, a wonderful magic trick, that is take an ally, a long time ally like Canada, and all of a sudden Canadians, they hate, hate, hate the United States of America.I mean, just take a look at the net favorable rating trend line here from before when Trump, before it took office the second time around, plus 13 points.Look at that drop now, that's a nearly 50 point drop.Now Canadians have a minus 33 net favorable view of the United States, inside out, round and round, upside down, Diana Ross.

It's amazing.I mean, you think about two countries with a border, not at war.Longtime allies.Have you ever seen something like this?No, I can't imagine there's any place in history where unprecedented.So what about Trump specifically?

Yeah.Talk about confidence.The United States president, you know, back when Joe Biden was president in twenty twenty four, majority of Canadians had, in fact, confidence in Joe Biden in the U .S.president.We're talking fifty two percent.

Now look at it now.Just 20 percent have confidence in the president.United look at that not confident number, that percentage from forty six to seventy nine.We're talking four and five.Canadians are not confident.confident in the President of the United States, and that is what is driving this dislike, dare I say hatred, that Canadians have of the United States overall.

It's very troubling for Americans because this is not reciprocated.Tell me something I don't know.

It is not reciprocated.I'll tell you something you don't know.Canadians may not like the United States, but Americans still like Canada.I mean, look at the favorable views that Americans have of Canada.We're still talking four and five, 80 percent, the unfavorable just 15 percent.So what we basically went, we were mutual allies.

By the way, who are those 15 percent?

They're Republicans, for the most part, who are following Donald Trump's lead.That's who they are.But it's a very small, very small portion.

Thank you.But wait, there's more evidence that Trump's toxic smoke has polluted Canadian feelings about America.

I would say that this entire thing is ridiculous.I think it's kind of unnecessary.

It's frustrating, you know?

Confusing.Disappointing.Vengeance.Disheartening.Everyone's affected by the tariffs.

It's made the prices of supplies and material more unpredictable and more expensive.It will affect the common people, you know, like you, me and everyone.

What the tariffs say about the relationship between Canada and the U .S.is that it's definitely strained.I think it's really a relationship that is on the decline.

Every decision being taken at the moment by our neighbours to the south.is just sad for the entire world.You can't win with this man.He's so flaky and impulsive.Canada should not give up.We should continue to negotiate with the U .

and try to, you know, maybe get some sense into them.Canadians are also very fair people and I think our government's doing the best they can.

There are other opportunities in this world other than the United States.It is sad what it's come to, but we should look elsewhere.

Those were some Canadian citizens telling it like it is, but what about the politicians?As the beta to the alpha, surely they have to bow to Trump and put up with his abuse, right?Don't bet your Ontario farm on it.Here's the bear he has awoken and its elbows are high.

The Ontario premier, Ontario, obviously the economic engine of Canada.Doug Ford just told reporters this.

We can't keep rolling over for President Trump.We can't back down.I'm tired of the bully trying to take our lunch money all the time.

I think it would be a lot better, Ben, for Donald Trump, just to be honest, and impose a massive fee on Canada and declare that it's the rent that he's charging for the amount of time we spent living inside his head.Because he's obviously obsessed with us.He hates us.But he's also gutless.So this tariff thing tonight, I think everybody in Canada is saying, what?He's coming after us for what?

Hockey sticks?Is that the big threat?And the fact that he's imposing this 1930 tariff.Anybody who knows a little bit of history knows that that 1930 tariff act plunged the United States and the world into the worst economic catastrophe ever.They had to pull that one out of the crypt to come after us.

I think it's going to take generations for us to forget what this president did to Canada on annexing Canada, on tariffs, on using the Gordiel Bridge, using it as a hostile diplomacy against us, and then this.What's next?

How united is Team Canada right now?

Very united.We had the First Minister's call, I guess it was yesterday also, and with the Prime Minister and I think nothing unites like a common opponent and there's no more popular opponent in Canada right now than Donald Trump.

What's your reaction to President Trump suggesting Canada pay damages?You know, Boris, I think a lot of Americans, a lot of Canadians are just tired of these outbursts from the president.They're just detached from reality.Like if the president announced he was building a big, beautiful wall to keep out the smoke, or if Pete Hegseth declared war on the smoke with space lasers from Elon Musk, I think you'd just sound, in Canada, you'd hear the sound of a million facepalm emojis getting clicked at the same time.But it's not a joke.It's super serious.

Canada's been under sustained economic attack by this administration since it came in.So we have to take it seriously.But I mean, it's dismaying.to hear this kind of comment from the president.We're breathing the same smoke that Americans are breathing.Entire communities have fled for their lives moments ahead of this terrifying wall of fire rushing in.

And instead of an offer for for help, we get threats and insults.I mean, we're not blaming the United States for the fact that British Columbia has air quality warnings in effect right now from smoke from fires in Washington state and Oregon.Whenever the U .S.has struggled with big wildfires, Canada's been there to lend a hand.We sent hundreds of firefighters and

planes and other assistance to help Borneo with those monster fires last year.

The contrast between Canada and the U .S.is now greater than ever.And I think it shows what happens when a population consumes sweet maple syrup instead of sour maga ideology.
