Wab Kinew Takes Over! Danielle Smith HUMILIATED On National Stage

Hello everyone, welcome back.Fireworks in Canadian politics.I have to report this to you.The Premier of Manitoba, Wab Kanu, has just humiliated Daniel Smith.

Hi there, Julia Wong, CBC National.This is for Premier Smith.You said it's worth taking a look at Section 35 of the Constitution, which affirms treaty rights and includes a duty to consult with Indigenous groups.I know that Manitoba Premier Kanu said that he told you he wants it to be respected.I wonder if you brought this up with your counterparts, and if so, what conversations were had?

No, I mean, the way we're going to seek clarity is through the court.We think that the duty to consult is meant to be looked at through a lens of major projects.

She just said that one of the provisions in our constitution, the duty to consult with Indigenous people should only be viewed through a lens of major projects.That's just utter nonsense.The duty to consult Indigenous people has a much broader scope than just just dealing with major projects.

And we take that very seriously.We had an indigenous roundtable yesterday where I shared with the premiers how we're using our Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation to help underwrite major project participation to give revenues to indigenous nations.

So her idea of engaging with indigenous nations is just make sure they make some money.The court's decision to uphold the duty to consult with First Nations, in her words, is undemocratic.

But we'll, we'll make the arguments in court about what the limits to duty to consult ought to be.And we'll see how that conversation goes.There's a couple of rounds that we have to go through, obviously, to court of appeal, probably also to the Supreme Court of Canada.But we want to make sure that we have a very clear understanding of what the duty to consult really means and what it doesn't mean.And I think at the moment,there's a lack of clarity on that.

She thinks there's a lack of clarity on what the duty to consult means.Well, Danielle, it's written in our constitution.There's a whole section in our constitution about the duty to consult.You know what's not in our constitution?Our constitution mentions nothing about having votes for separation.All right.

Now she gave her a gibberish nonsense speech there and thought she was done.But Wab Kanu was listening.

So I think we know that that is not correct, a lot of what you just said there, Premier Smith.

Yes, I love this guy.I love Wab Kanu.This guy is no BS, straightforward, says it like it is, like a non -politician.So long we've been these politicians that handle these things wearing white gloves.Oh, I don't want to piss her off.If I say something bad, bad or contradict the premier.

That means I hate Albertans.Wab Kanu will have nothing of it.He just launches in because he's native and he knows this stuff and he's educated and he just heard this premier of Alberta gush this gibberish and he couldn't take it.He says, well actually no, what you said was wrong and I'm sorry I interrupted because I love this guy.Listen to what he says.

So I think we know that that is not correct.A lot of what you just said there, Premier Smith, specifically, and we spoke about this, so I don't mind repeating this.It is not up to the petition gatherers to fulfill the duty to consult.It is up to you as the Alberta government to fulfill the duty to consult.And in this case, when there's clearly going to be an impact on well -established existing hunting and fishing rights,by putting up an international border, if some would have their way.

The judge ruled, and I would agree with the judge's ruling, that that is going to infringe on rights.And so there is a duty to consult.

Yes, exactly.It's her job.It's the government of Alberta that's bringing this potential separation.forward.It's the government's job.It's their duty to consult.

It's not some separatist, random people on the streets' duty to consult.This guy it gets it and he's just exposed her for the just just humiliated her on the stage there with all the premieres Reporters, I hope that every Canadian sees this this gaslighting that we hear from this Daniel Smith She it's it's always someone else's fault.We're having a referendum.It's not her idea.It's Well, there's 700 ,000 Albertans that voted for this.Another lie, because there aren't 700 ,000 Albertans that voted for this.

There's 400 ,000 Albertans that signed a petition that they did not want to vote.And there's 300 ,000 signatures on some petitions that could be forged.by the separatists because they had the leaked voter list from Alberta.Those 300 signatures are in question.The only legitimate signatures we have are from 400 ,000 Albertans that don't want to have a separation vote.And this woman spews these lies and rhetoric and gaslights us that it's not her.

She's just watching it all happen.She has no ability to stop it.She just wants democracy to play out.She's full of shit and Wab Kanu called her out and he's not done.

Now to take a step further for the Albertan who's been frustrated over the lack of progress on pipelines.He's got the Premier of BC announcing LNG.We're working on China.We're working on Northern Trade Corridors.This is a moment to get big things built in Manitoba.And I would say now is the time to work together.

Why don't we hold off on this referendum talk for a year or two and see if we get these pipelines under construction?Because at the end of the day, We want Canada to succeed.We're all very proud of this place.I myself am very, very patriotic.And what I think it's important for us to say when we hear the sorts of discussion happening here in Alberta is for us to say, okay, thank you First Nations in Alberta for hitting the pause button on this.Now the rest of Canada, let's work together and show Alberta just how appreciated they are in the rest of this country.

Yes.Thank you First Nations in Alberta for putting a stop to this nonsense by going to court and stopping this and the only reason it's continuing now is because Daniel Smith wants it to continue and she couldn't help herself sitting there humiliated amongst her peers in front of the audience of reporters humiliated undressed in front of everyone she couldn't help herself and she had to blurt out and try and just get the last word and this is why we have the courts because you can have politicians disagree And that's why you take it through the court, you take it through the appeals, and you go to the Supreme Court.

And ultimately, though, I respect the difference of opinion that Premier Canute has raised.I think we'll wait to see how our court of appeals process goes and see what the courts have to say in the end.

just completely humiliated and she couldn't help herself and she had to actually lie in that statement.Well, we'll just wait and see how this works its way through the Court of Appeals.But that's a lie.You're not waiting to see how this appeal process works its way through the courts up to the Supreme Court.You've actually introduced your own question nowto replace the question that was rejected.

There's no reason to have a vote on anything now.Our First Nations successfully stopped it.It's you, Danielle, that you're not waiting to see how it works its way through the courts now.You've replaced the separatist question with your own question.The only reason that this is continuing now and that we're going to be faced with this discussion for the next five months will be and more and more and more escalating until that vote on October 19th.The only reason it's going to be in the news almost every day all summer in all of Canada is because of you.

She lied in her own smug response to being smacked down by Wab Kanu.And these conservatives, they're all the same.They don't care at all about indigenous rights.They have no respect.They just simply, uh, they just want to, it's just something in their way that they just have to push their way through.They do not respect indigenous rights in our country at all, including the leader of the opposition, Pierre Poliev, who gave this absolutely smug, disgusting response.

And so all we really need to do is get the prime minister out of the way because he is the only one.who has the authority to approve or reject one.

What about the duty to consult with Indigenous leaders?

We should do that.

You would do that?Of course.And what if, after those consultations, the answer is still no?

Well, the answer is given by the Prime Minister.And I'm running...

I'm saying if the Indigenous leaders say no...

Then I will thank them for their input.And at the end of the day, the Prime Minister has to decide.And my decision, and I'm telling Canadians before the election so they can vote on it, is I will approve a pipeline.

Well, what about the duty to consult First Nations, Pierre?We should do that and then smugly smiles at the camera knowing full well that we should do that.But if.there's any input from the Indigenous people, we should just ignore them.I'm the Prime Minister.I'll just do it anyway.

The duty to consult for these Conservatives means nothing.Pierre Pauly saying, well, he would consult with First Nations, but then just ignore them.That would result in court cases.And then the projects get stalled as these court cases work their way through the courts.Could take years.And companies don't need that uncertainty.

Once this starts, then companies back away and they say, well, we don't want to risk our money here because we have no idea what's going to happen.We have these politicians fighting.We don't have all the stakeholders on side.And this is why Mark Carney is taking the absolute opposite approach of trying to build consensus, meeting with all the premiers, meeting with the Indigenous people, meeting with the stakeholders, meeting with private equity, meeting with investors from all over the world, trying to bring everyone together to agree.So when a project is considered, it already has all the ingredients, everyone on side.It's not just a big fight.

It seems like this Daniel Smith and this conservative side is always interested in fighting.And that's toxic for projects.That's how you get nothing done.And mark my words, over the course of the summer, until that separation referendum is done, it's going to be very difficult probably unlikely that any private proponent is going to step forward and say, yeah, we're going to commit $20 billion to this project.We're not going to wait to see how this referendum goes.It's no big deal if Alberta separates.

What's the big deal?We're ready to put our cash on the table.That's not going to happen now.Daniel Smith, just like she destroyed the renewable industry in Alberta by putting a pause on it and using her political ideologyjust basically stop the renewable industry in Alberta.She's killed off that industry.

Investment has dropped something like 99 % in Alberta renewables.They used to lead North America in renewable investment.That's been destroyed.And now that we're this close to actually, or Alberta is this close to actually getting what they want, pipelines and infrastructure.Now she throws this into it.And this could derail everything, or at least until that vote happens, pause everything.

So add another five months to the timeline.It's her own fault.And she can't help herself.Let's hear how Wab Kanuh summarized his interaction with Danielle Smith on another interview.I just love this guy.No BS.

So we only saw, and that's just a snippet, we aired more of that exchange, of course, last night after it occurred, but that's what we as the public saw.Was there a conversation after that press conference between you and the premier?

Well, we shook hands and yeah, that was the end of the meeting.

We shook hands and that was the end of the meeting.That woman didn't want to discuss anything.She was pissed off.She was humiliated.I love this guy.

You know, over the course of my political career, I've tried to focus maybe more on a message of unity because It is about neighbours being able to live next to neighbours.And whether you're Indigenous, non -Indigenous, Albertan, non -Albertan, you know, we're all Canadians and we've got to find a way to live together.So hopefully through some of the more challenging conversations, as evidenced by the comments by both Premier Evie and Premier Smith today, I just hope that we can all live together as Canadians and have our disagreements when we have them, but more importantly, focus on the things that unite us as part of this great country of Canada.

Yes.well said.This great country of Canada.We need more politicians like Wab Kanu.Just a beautiful display of frankness.No BS, just straightforward.
