Xabi Alonso Takes Over Chelsea

Xavi Alonso is the new Chelsea manager, but he's got a tough job ahead of him.For the last few years, Chelsea has literally been run like a hedge fund.They've been buying players just to flip them for a profit.And to be fair, they've been failing at even that, because they ain't making any profit on Alejandro Garnacho.But regardless, there's been no sporting project, and that's resulted in a mid -table finish for Chelsea, which is embarrassing after 1 .5 billion has been spent to build a squad.But that all changes today, because this is the Xavi Alonso Chelsea Rebuild.

because all he's done so far in these first couple of weeks is escort players out.I actually can't believe the amount of talents we got rid of, but I feel like that's what Chubby Alonso wanted.He wants to have a core squad.On paper, this is probably Chubby Alonso's best XI, but it's still got players playing in positions they're not really comfortable in, like Cucurella playing in left mid, Rhys James playing further forward in right mid.I'm sure Pedro Neto is kind of confused playing as more of a cam.And it doesn't help that Xabi Alonso's debut game for Chelsea is against Man City.

More than getting a result, this first game for Xabi Alonso was just observing this Chelsea team.figuring out in what direction he wants to go with the players.

Although it doesn't look like Xabi Alonso is enjoying what he's seeing from the touchline.

Because Erling Haaland gives Man City the early lead.And then Farfana with a diabolical challenge on Doku gets sent off.And now with the man advantage, Omar Mahmoud capitalized and doubled City's lead.And that is how Xabi Alonso's debut game finishes.A 2 -0 defeat to City.And of course, the English media jumped on this opportunity to grill Xabi Alonso.

All he had to say was give him time.He took a lot of positives from that game.like Enzo Fernandez.He was really good in that midfield, formed a good connection with Cole Palmer.It seemed like they were the only two players who kind of knew what they had to do.The big problem, though, was Reece James.

He had no idea what to do in that right midfield position, and he was getting caught out of position quite a few times.And looks like Xabi Alonso is already working on a solution, trying out Reece James in the back three and Estevão in that right midfield position.And this seemed to instantly work as Reece James was able to cover more ground.Meanwhile, Estevãoin the attack brought that flair.

Brilliant finish from Estevão!And he gives the lead to Chelsea.Looks like Alonso's tweaks are coming into effect after all.And then scored another goal to give us back our lead.

And then it was Palma who played a beautiful pass to João Pedro, who almost fumbled it, but secured the result for us in the end.First win under the belt for Xabi Alonso.And his tactical system is coming to life.It seems like Alonso has got the right side of the team completely sorted.Rhys James tucking in as the right centre -back.Estevão playing further up, supported by Cole Palma, and there's even Kaysen to cover for Esteban not tracking back, but the left side, that is where things are still a bit inconsistent.

And that's why Xabi Alonso was swapping out a lot of players on that side.Now some decisions worked, like Valentin Barko in the left midfield position, he was electric.

But some were a total flop, like Alejandro Garnacho.

Jarel Hartodu was solid as a centre -back, but all of this tinkering did mean that the team was inconsistent for the first half of the season.There were moments of magic coming from the likes of Cole Palmer, but there was also moments of madness in the defence.To be honest, halfway through the season and we're third in the Premier League.Okay, we're not going to be in the title race this season.Arsenal are running away with it.But when Xabi is still figuring things out, her is a solid position to be in.

But while there seems to be stability on the pitch, off the pitch in the Chelsea dressing room, there is chaos.A few senior players who are not seemingly fitting into this new three at the back system.They're trying to force Xabi Alonso's hand to changing the system, which by the way is something he did at Real Madrid.And is that the same thing that's going to happen here at Chelsea?Now the players causing this mutiny are Pedro Neto, Kukurea, as well as Malo Gusto.Probably getting a lot of game time before for Chelsea, but now Kukurea...

he's kind of been benched, because Valentin Bako is a lot more complete, Malo Gusto too has no place in the squad, and Pedro Ledo is not enjoying playing in a central position.But the question is, does Xabi Alonso surrender to these guys?I don't think so.He's got the backing of the Chelsea ownership, a four year contract, and this is a statement.All three players that were causing a mutiny in the dressing room have been sold.This is proof that Xabi Alonso is running Chelsea not the players.

This now does put the club in a tough spot because we've just lost three players and there's no time to bring in replacements.Now, the Chelsea ownership was ready to make a quick signing to save the squad, but Xabi Alonso declined that.He does not want to be making any more panic signings.Now, that does mean he's stuck with using Garnacho, which I don't think is a good idea.But hey, Chelsea are still in a really strong position this season.They're in the Premier League, still alive in the FA Cup, and they're also first in the Europa League.

And now that Xabi has got his first 11 kind of sorted, Maybe Chelsea could surprise everyone and win a trophy this season.We're now at the end of Xabi Alonso's first season at Chelsea and fourth in the Premier League is what we've managed to achieve.I am disappointed that we dropped behind Man United and also the fact that we're 30 points off Man City.That is insane.And maybe the gap was so big because we ended up focusing a lot more on cup competitions because we do end up reaching the FA Cup Final where we're playing Aston Villa.

What a comeback from Chelsea.They did not give up.Stuck till the end.And now they are FA Cup champions.

And defensively last season we did make quite a few mistakes.But I think the priority this season is bringing in a world -class player in that left camp position.Bernardo did the job, not particularly well, and I don't think he should be a starter at Chelsea.Xabi Alonso wants a better player, and this season he wants to completely focus on just improving that position.And could this be an opportunity opportunity for a massive reunion with Flory and Wiertz.There's no denying that Wiertz played his best football under Xabi Alonso.

Halfway through the season, and I did not expect this at all, Firmin is the top scorer of the club, 21 goals!I guess all it took him was a while to adjust to the club.But yeah, the fact that he scored more than João Pedro and Cole Palmer combined is crazy.And that's actually put us right in the midst of a title race.Same points as Newcastle, I have no idea how they're top of the league.Brighton are right behind a couple of points back, but the usual suspects, Arsenal, even Man City, they're all having off -seasons.

This feels like the perfect time for Chelsea to clinch the Premier League.Our first task, though, is to clear Brighton.There are a couple of points behind us and I don't want them getting into this race.And with the red -hot bomb, Firmin Lopez is in.That's the 17th goal in the Premier League for the Spaniard.
